syncreon and Goodman celebrate the opening of international logistics center for Volkswagen

syncreon & property group Goodman announce the opening of new 24,000 m2 international export hub in the Port of Duisburg.

Representatives from Duisburger Hafen AG (duisport), syncreon, and Volkswagen along with Mayor Sören Link celebrated the opening of the new facility on Thursday. The logistics centre is leased to Volkswagen, with syncreon to run logistics supply operations for Volkswagen’s automotive group’s plants outside of Europe and duisport to provide the transport logistics.

In the search for a well-connected logistics location which would allow international shipping of automotive parts, Volkswagen chose the port of Duisburg. The logistics concept designed by the port and the excellent infrastructure connections provided by rail and inland waterway to the sea ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, are complemented by a custom logistics facility. Today, just eight months after the decision in favour of Duisburg, the two project partners, Goodman and syncreon, symbolically opened the new export hub (operations will commence on 1 April). Goodman has invested over €10 million in this property solution and after handover of the logistics centre, will continue as the long-term property manager. The warehouse is tailored specifically to the requirements of the automotive industry. The 24,000 m2 of storage and logistics space include the industry-typical side loading and unloading zones in a tunnel structure of approx. 3,000 m2and an external storage-space of approximately 1,000 m2, which serves as a loading bay.

We believe we are also providing syncreon with optimum conditions for the implementation of all logistics supply services,” said Jordan Corynen, Goodman Director for Germany.

Volkswagen commissioned international service provider syncreon for processing in-house logistics at the Duisburg-Kasslerfeld site. The company will manage the property and employ up to 230 people, providing new jobs for many skilled employees from the region.

Because of the flexible property design, we can demonstrate our productive capability on the site and provide the exact capacity that is needed every day,” said syncreon Automotive President Michael Neumann.
